Update February 8, 2010
I received a call from our son, Jean-Pierre (JP), today telling me he is sleeping in the house! His buddy, Kerby, from the dance team, Invasion, is sharing JP’s room and they are both happy to sleep in a bed! They have spent many nights in the bus or on the ground since this happened.
I can’t wait until each of our people has a bed to sleep in again! That day can’t come too soon for me. First we need food and water, then medical care, then land, then housing, then a bed… in that order! It is quite a process. Probably the most difficult thing to deal with is that everything really seems to be a priority! We must get our people back on their feet as soon as possible and establish jobs. The Haitians are survivors and for that, we are blessed, but they are human beings who need privacy and the comfort of ‘Home’. We pray that day will come soon!
Today, Olrich took a pregnant woman to the Red Cross Hospital. The baby was ‘trapped’ inside the mother. With only minutes before the baby would die, the medical staff went to work and the mother and baby lived! Praise God for the door that opened to us at this hospital just days ago! Before the need arises, God has already paved the way! He is a step ahead of the need… This is cause for rejoicing!
I was so thrilled to talk with Cinera today. He teaches most of our New Believers, Water Baptism, Discipleship and Evangelism classes. Today, he had 33 new converts in class! They were so excited to see what God has to say to them about the decision they just made to follow Jesus Christ! He gave them the New Testament in Creole and they were jumping up and down to have a Bible! It’s exciting to see everything continue in the church, even though the people are displaced. The work of the ministry continues daily.
Terry is in the DR tonight, hopefully getting some much-needed rest before coming to the States tomorrow. Continue to pray for him. He is a man with a tremendous responsibility to oversee the Haitians that God has given to us. Today, that is an awesome task! We give God all the glory for what He is doing in opening doors for many to help us.
Thanks for your continued prayers and financial support. Money continues to come in. It goes out as fast as it comes in! Thank you for using PayPal, which was set up as a convenience to you. We are aware of every gift that arrives. I am doing my best to acknowledge every letter and gift at this time, but it is difficult. Just know that God sees your heart and will reward you greatly because you have given to the poor.
Proverbs 19:17 says, “He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given.” What a promise… Many of you now stand in line for a great blessing! He will repay!
